The net income limit is equal to the current Federal Poverty Level and is the amount left over after certain deductions are allowed. However, all households are subject to a monthly net income limit. The gross income limit applies to most households, but does not apply to households in which at least one person is 60 years of age or older, or receives disability income. The gross income limit is equal to 185% of the current Federal Poverty Level and is the amount of income the household has before taxes and deductions. Once the form is complete, Individuals will be assigned an eligibility worker who will interview individuals to complete the application process. Individuals can apply for these benefits by completing a state application form which can be done online, or mailed, or dropped off at a local DSS Regional Office. See eligibility guidelines below!+++++++++++++++++++Federally funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, helps eligible individuals and families afford the cost of food at supermarkets, grocery stores and farmers' markets. This is an increase from the most recent eligibility benefit level of 185% of the federal poverty level ($1,986 for a single person and $4,086 for a four-person household). Click here for more information.Eligibility Update - 9/28/22: The State of Connecticut Department of Social Services has announced new eligibility benefit levels, as of OctoConnecticut residents will qualify for SNAP if their monthly gross income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level (for example, this would include $2,265 for a single person and $4,625 for a four-person household). SNAP is the Federal name for the program. The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) works with state agencies, nutrition educators, and neighborhood and faith-based organizations to ensure that those eligible for nutrition assistance can make informed decisions about applying for the program and can access benefits.
